After Flowering
What do I do once my orchid has finished flowering?
I would like $1 every time this is asked
First what type of orchid please see "Types Of Orchids" if your not sure
Phalaenopsis (moth Orchid)
as per the pictures below look for where the first flower was and count back two nodes and cut just above this node (a node is the bump in the flower stem these nodes make the stem look like bamboo). nodes will sometimes re-flower or from time to time send out a keiki (baby plant) as per pictures
you can keep cutting the nodes back to the plant and this does not seem to hamper new flower spikes developing

Above is a picture of a small keiki plant growing from the node on a flower spike of a phalaenopsis orchid.
90% of other orchids
trim back old spike. Also once flowering is finished this is a good time to repot most orchids if needed.
